What Council of Europe (Istanbul) Convention on combating domestic violence and 2020-2023 National Action Plan on Combating domestic violence promise to lawyer community?

Recently on 27.11.2020, the 2020-2023 National Action Plan on Combating domestic violence has been adopted by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In upcoming years it is expected that the Azerbaijani state will join the Istanbul Convention which defines 4 basic principles in the prevention of domestic violence. The cornerstone principles are as follows: 1) prevention of violence against women; 2) protection of victims; 3) prosecution of perpetrators; 4) co-ordinated policies to assist victims of violence.

It is worth to mention that these principles are stipulated in the 2020-2023 National Plan. The National Plan aims besides other stakeholders such as prosecutors, judges, etc. to hold training for members of Azerbaijani Bar Association in the field of combating domestic violence, protection of victims, and behave with victims. Azerbaijani Bar Association has been already holding training for the past 2 years for lawyer candidates in the respective filed together with Justice Academy and international partners.

In the upcoming 2021-2023 years Azerbaijani Bar Association shall organize training events for lawyers together with its international partners by paying special attention to CoE HELP platform.
