The Head of the Directorate for Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe visited the Azerbaijani Bar Association.

A delegation led by Christos Giakoumopoulos, Head of the Directorate for Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe, who is visiting our country, met with the management of the Azerbaijani Bar Association.
 
Anar Baghirov, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, greeted the guests and spoke about the recent fruitful cooperation between the Council of Europe and the Azerbaijani Bar Association, its usefulness and interaction, the constant development of relations, and its importance for the Bar Association. Then, Anar Baghirov invited the guests to watch the presentation regarding the work done in recent years by the Board of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, which was elected in 2017.
 
Thus, Bayram Orujov, Head of the Office of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, spoke about the work done in the last 4 years in various directions, the establishment of international relations of the Azerbaijani Bar Association from the Far East to America in a short time, membership in many influential organizations, gave examples of the role of international experience and practice in the activities of the Board.
 
In addition, Bayram Orujov spoke about the use of innovations in the field of advocacy, e-services, including amendments and additions to many laws related to advocacy, as well as procedural codes and other legislative acts.
 
Furthermore, Bayram Orujov informed the guests about the increase in the number of lawyers in the country, the fact that our lawyers can be accepted as lawyers in England and Wales, financial and academic support to youth and students.
 
Moreover, Bayram Orujov spoke about the free legal aid provided to 25,000 low-income citizens in recent years, as well as frequent actions and competitions in the social and sports spheres.
 
Afterward, Christos Giakoumopoulos expressed his satisfaction with his visit to our country, introduced the delegation led by him, and gave information about the purpose of the meeting. Mr. Giakoumopoulos praised the work of the Azerbaijani Bar Association in recent years, stressed the importance of the role of the Bar in the protection of human rights and freedoms, shared views on the further expansion of relations between the two institutions, the implementation of the decisions of the European Court of the Human Rights, and the application of case law in national courts.
 
Additionally, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Bar Association Anar Baghirov answered the questions addressed by Christos Giakoumopoulos and the delegation.
 
The meeting was also attended by Zoltan Hernyes, Head of the Baku Office of the Council of Europe, Clare Ovey, Head of the Decision Enforcement Department, Jasmine Chagh, Head of the Sector, Kamran Isayev and Mahir Mushteidzade.
